The launch of the official logo and theme for Samoa’s 64th Independence Anniversary this afternoon, marks an important step in our preparations for this year’s celebrations.

The Independence Committee, chaired by the Honourable Prime Minister, invited public submissions for the design of the logo and theme. These were expected to reflect our journey as an independent nation, the strong foundations of our democracy, and the future we hope to build together.

At the close of the competition, a total of 11 submissions were received and carefully considered by the committee. A prize of $3,000 tala was approved for the winning entry.

The winning logo reflects Samoa’s journey as a nation and highlights the pillars that uphold our democracy—our Christian faith, and our culture and traditions.

The colours represent our national identity, while the designs decorating the numbers 6 and 4 showcase the creativity and technique of our people. The handshake symbolises unity, peace, and solidarity—values that continue to guide us forward.

The theme for this year’s celebration is:

“United for a New Beginning.”

Our journey since 1962 reminds us of God’s faithfulness and grace upon our nation. It also honours the sacrifices of our forefathers, who dreamed of a free and democratic Samoa where future generations could govern themselves with dignity and purpose.

This theme reminds us that unity is our strength. The challenges we face today are complex and constantly changing, often shaped by forces beyond our control. Yet, through faith, unity, and solidarity, we can overcome these challenges and move forward together with confidence and hope.

I am pleased to officially announce that the winning logo and theme for Samoa’s 64th Independence Anniversary were created by a proud son of Samoa, who lives and works here at home – Mr. Jack Olaf Lafoa’i, a young man from the villages of Utuali’i and Fatitū, Saleimoa.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all who submitted entries. Your creativity and commitment have helped shape this important milestone in our national celebrations.

The logo and theme are the property of the Government and have been officially registered with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour, in accordance with the law. Any intended commercial use must follow the proper procedures and receive prior approval from the Independence Committee.

In this spirit, I am honoured to officially launch the logo and theme, for Samoa’s 64th Independence Celebration.
