Remarks By The Prime Minister Of Samoa, Hon. Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt At The Official Opening Of The New Legislative Assembly Complex (1 June 2026)

he Honourable Speaker has already graciously conveyed the significance of this morning’s Official Ceremony, and therefore I do not wish to prolong the proceedings further.

May the sacred traditions and protocols of Ti’afau, the historic grounds of Samoa’s parliamentary heritage, continue to rest in dignity and honour.

Before we proceed with the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, I stand proudly as the Prime Minister of Samoa to convey, on behalf of the Government and people of Samoa, our sincere appreciation and gratitude to everyone who contributed to the successful completion of these important developments.

Today is a proud moment for Samoa. These facilities are not only an investment in infrastructure, but an investment in the future of our Parliament, our democracy and our nation.

I acknowledge with gratitude the Government and people of Australia for your generous support and longstanding friendship with Samoa. I also commend all contractors, consultants, parliamentary officials, staff and workers whose dedication and commitment have brought these projects to fruition.

As we celebrate this achievement during our 64’h Independence anniversary, may these developments continue to serve the people of Samoa for many generations to come.

May God continue to bless Samoa and our enduring partnerships.

At this time, I respectfully invite Her Excellency, the Governor-General of Australia, the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn, to join me for the official cutting of the ribbon, as a symbol of our strong partnership, friendship and shared commitment to the future of Samoa

May this new chapter continue to strengthen the work of Parliament in serving the people of samoa with dignity, integrity and unity. It is now our honour, to officially declare these developments open.

FA’AFETAI!
